lyrics

So she finished her coffee
put the cup in the sink
like a hundred times before.
Put her mother’s picture
in her bag on the floor
and upstairs she heard him snore.
Left a note on the table
that she just wasn’t able
and went out the kitchen door.
Threw her keys into the river
took the bus to the station
like she dreamed a hundred times before.

Found a job in an office
and a new place to stay
with a friendly girl next door.
Hung her mother’s picture
on her kitchen wall
just like she'd done before.
And she went out to a bar
and she danced with a guy
but she didn’t take him home
'cause it didn’t feel right.
Instead she bought a new copy
of her favorite record
she had heard a hundred times or more.

And she finished her coffee
put the cup in the sink
like a hundred times before.
Looked at her mother
by her side on the wall
waving from an unknown shore.
And she searched for the years
that went by and away.
Thought about her dreams
how they faded or failed.
But she knew that she was free
and it made her feel better
than she felt a hundred times before.
